Boho-Chic Chest of Drawers

Post-Referendum Blues here in Glasgow today... everyone seems tired and sombre.  Best time to be colourful and brighten things up I guess!!

Just look at this poor wee chest of drawers... really not much going on BUT it is quite old from the turn of last century.  The handles are really wonderful jazzy Deco and the drawers and sold oak in good condition.  So brown it's doooowwwnnnn....

OK - time for change! Here's what I did - after removing the hardware and cleaning up all the woodwork, I painted all over with an Antique Turquoise chalk paint.  Uplifting blues.

I stenciled the top with some white and cream cherry blossom (more chalk paint).

And went slightly bonkers with the gold wax.  Then I got some sandpaper and worked some of the paint and gold away to get an antiqued shabby look, letting the dark wood show through.  Finishing and sealing the turquoise surfaces with clear wax for a soft sheen.

Aren't these handles gorgeous?  I painted them with the same blue and added gold wax to bring out the design.

Now Boho-Chic - and would make a great little chest for a hallway.

Finally, I added some gold around the tops of the drawers.  All done! :-)

What do you think?  Cute?

Black Wardrobe - Custom Makeover

Just a few pics from the workshop - I was commissioned to work on a customer's pine wardrobe - this one was made in Mexico, quite rustic with pseudo 'rusty' metal hardware.

The request was to give it the 'cherry blossom' look...

So here it is in the workshop... first of all, painted all over in black (Nocturnal) chalk paint, gilded on the top, along the insides of the doors, along the wardrobe bottom and on the drawer.

Apologies for the pics... not much room to manoeuvre with this piece.

Then painted with cherry blossom design using pink and white chalk paints.  Finishing touches were the handles which are changed to black and gold ceramic... I'll need to remove and drill new holes before delivering this - the original placement of the door handles are out of alignment!

Large Coffee Table with Stencil

This is a quick story - have to run and watch the Gentlemen's Finals at Wimbledon... on a large TV with friends, fizz and strawberries - come on Andy!!!

This large, solid wood coffee table was being discarded - such a shame, I thought it would look good refurbed with a stencil design.  Here's the REVEAL shot.

Here's the before...

The varnish was quite damaged.  I'm often asked if chalk paint will chip.  Well here's the proof, any surface will wear after use regardless of the finish, so use casters under cups, glasses and hot plates.

I lightly sanded a couple of places to remove some raised bits.

The condition of the wood is good though - just need a quick clean and then got to it with Old White all over and the top with French Linen Chalk Paint.

This is how the colours look before waxing all over with Clear Wax.

I used a stencil twice in a mirror image.  I thought I'd keep this one simple.

This is how fully waxed finished version looks - I really do need to get my camera sorted out and stop using the iphone!!
