Make it Red! Raspberry Painted Cupboard

It's very satisfying to take a old piece of furniture like this and turn it into something so very different. This piece from the 1930s has lovely old Bakelite handles, but sadly one is broken so a total overhaul is needed.

Tralaaaa...  this is just a quick snap taken in the shop but a great transformation.

After a few coats of Autentico's Ruby red chalk paint, dark wax has been used, it tones down the hot red colour to more of a raspberry, adds aging and - lots of character.

The handles have been changed to the ceramic clock faces.

And gilding's been added across the drawer and cupboard tops.

Light gilding highlights the cabriole feet.  I just love this raspberry colour, it's so uplifting :-)

French Cupboard - painted Grey and Lime Green

I walked into one of the shops I was scouting around for furniture and stopped in my tracks!  Sometimes you see something that's just such an exciting project - and I love this French looking cupboard.

It's much larger than a bedside cabinet... Here's a peek at the 'before' when it arrived in the workshop.  Slightly banged about from use but has a really nice oak grain - and still has the original key.  I wanted to create quite a dramatic look.

I opted for Autentico's 'Paris grey' chalk paint which is called Foggy Venice.  And then went to work with white wax to bring out the grain.

Those cute handles have been refurbed with grey paint and silver gilding.

And inside, to give a really FRESH apple lift, I've used Autentico's Lime chalk paint.

The basked of fruit has been highlighted with the white wax.. I really love the soft peachy look its got now.

All the carving on the front has been buffed up to add more dimension.  I took a few pics in the shop - this one with the light on...

Light off...

It would look stunning in a small entrance hall, there's just about the right amount storage space, two shelves and one drawer :-)

Duck Egg Blue - Rustic Cupboard

Oh hurruh for June - feels like summer now and I've been able to get outside as it's stopped raining.

I picked up this simple little washstand/ cupboard with one drawer over and wanted to turn it into something a little more rustic.  Loving how it's finished up.

So here's how she started out...

You can see this would have been a cute piece of furniture in it's day, but fading away in the corner now and desperately in need of a new look.

I painted the insides of the cupboards and drawer in a Violet Grey chalk paint (it ain't pink) - nice that the cupboards are separate spaces..

The colour all over is a 'Duck Egg Blue' or in Autentico's colour range it's called 'Troubled Waters'.  I've used gold gilding across the cupboard, drawers and feet.

Those original casters create just DARLING tootsies!

Actually, there was more work to this piece than immediately meets the eye - I needed to fill the holes from the original hardware after I removed them and then re-drill through and sand to ensure the new pulls were aligned properly.

Never a dull day... aren't these French Bee ceramic handles adorable?

I'm really pleased with the new rustic look of this piece - all finished with a bit of shabby sanding and sealed with clear wax :-)
